Seller with 5 noted feedbacks, only 1 as a seller had these three large cents for sale; all three are current CN counterfeits.

I have actually written Coin Week articles on all 3 types of these fakes, so certainly known...

ebay removed all 3; unfortunately his 1 sold appears to also be fake. Just found it interesting the had all fake large cents and just getting started.

It would be helpful to link the article so that folks can read it, and then analyze the fakes as presented.

Glad to hear that ebay took them down, at least.

Aren't these ridiculously overpriced anyway? Based on the way they are priced, I don't think the seller has any coin knowledge.

Those are amazing fakes. Except for the date fonts, which are unbelievably bad. How does that even happen?!

I'm concerned these would fool some collectors and be sold as genuine.

Those are not first-look fakes unless you know what you're looking at (such as the date, as 1796NoPole notes.)

Those would be highly deceptive to a large number of non-specialist collectors, especially with all of the fake patina, assuming that the low feedback and absurdly high pricing aren't enough to scare buyers away.

I'm glad they were de-listed.

They are getting good at the fake aging process. Many novice collectors will be fooled by these.
It's a non stop job weeding these out on ebay.

Putting patina on metal is incredibly easy.
I build wood outdoor benches and I use new 3/4" all thread as leg binders. I strip off the zinc protective coating with muriatic acid then hammer the threads to make them look distressed, and pour a chemical concoction of mine to induce a rust looking color on the bare steel - it only takes a few minutes and looks great.
You can also buy patina inducing products at your local bog Box hardware stores too.

Are there any recommended sources bookwise) for learning about counterfeits? Maybe something that also has an ebook version?

I have actually been asked to consider writing a one; my Coin Week articles on the latest fakes I have documented can be found at:
