I've never seen a fingerprint on a penny before. Is it an error? Any why is the texture different?

The more you search the more coins you will see with a fingerprint, not an error though, just happened while it was out in the world. Your coin is a zinc penny that is plated with copper, the texture is caused by contaminates trapped between the two, very common with zinc cents.

And I do know it's a large date. I have several small dates but not the one I need lol I know I'll probably never find that one. Lol

Yes, zinc plating issues--not uncommon with earlier zinc core Lincoln cents. And yes, a fingerprint--an issue independent of the zinc matter.

Is the 3.1 gram 1982-D small date penny the only small date variation with significant value?

Asking because I found a 3.1 gram 1982-P small date penny.
