You clearly see the extra letters in these 2 pics. For the other pics see my first post on this but those don't show much except the front and back of the coin.   |

Are you familiar with the 1983 extra letters? These are in the same spots....between the I and N and on the G

My coin isn't stained otherwise I would. I wouldnt use chemicals on my coins

Looks like scratches and Pareidolia. I am not seeing any extra letters at all. Errers and Varietys.

Yes - this is the 1983 "Extra Letters In Motto" - it is a "counter clash" but it is not what you are showing us...........  |

Okay, maybe its just me seeing too many coins, I search thousands and it takes a toll over time. I'm sure you guys can relate, but I can swear it looks like theres a letter between the I and N. Its probably one of those things where ill look at it again in a month and say "what was I thinking" haha

Marv I know my picture sucks but if you saw the coin in person youd see it clearly. Mine doesn't have the scratches over the letters but the N is where it should be. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do this but if you want I can mail you the coin so you can see it and then youll see. Ill even mail it with a couple bucks for the stamp when you return it.

I probably should not say anything but I think you are making a big mistake. When an expert tries to teach a beginner how to properly clean coins and rather than saying thank you, you repeat what you believe (using a pencil eraser) to clean coins. Do what you want but one of these days you will have a nice coin and your method of cleaning will devalue it. Proper chemicals as suggested is the only way to clean coins. People here with a lot of experience are only trying to help you.

Yes, beware Pareidolia. On the matter of pencil erasers--I experimented with a few worthless, well-circulated and stained/grimy Lincoln cents. The results were less than optimal--much stuff was removed, but stuff in crevasses--while reduced somewhat--remained. Examining the 'treated' areas with a 10X magnifying glass showed a bevy of lovely rub lines which weren't there before. |
