@wst, first welcome to CCF. Second, it appears as though both sides of this coin have some surface staining. This is not an error, but rather just damage.

to CCF...looks like a good candidate for an acetone bath, since it's just a damaged coin.

To CCF! It's a stained nickel. PMD.

Thank you everybody for taking the time to look at my nickel. I do have what may be a stupid question, what is an acetone bath? I truly apologize for the novice in me.

An acetone bath is just a soaking in acetone, which is the main ingredient in nail polish remover. Only acetone baths use pure acetone to remove organic material from coin surfaces. Greasy Fingers was kidding. Do not do that for this nickel.

to CCF.

You could use this coin as a test subject for soaking coins in acetone as you will not further damage an otherwise face value coin.

Just get some pure 100% acetone from a hardware store.
Do NOT use fingernail polish remover, ever, on a coin - that stuff will ruin a coins value.

Remember to rinse the coin with distilled water afterward.
