Getting close so putting this up.

Open to anyone with at least 50 posts or otherwise according to the rules of the board.

You must have PM available or you won't be able to send me your address if you win.

Sorry but I will only ship a prize to a US address.

Winner will be the first person to correctly answer the question at the end of the story. Contest is open until either someone gets it right or for five days, closing at 11:59PM eastern time on Tuesday night.

Any edited posts will be disqualified.

You get two (2) guesses.

Second prize will be awarded for the most humorous, entertaining or otherwise clever response, based on my opinion. This part is open for a minimum of 24 hours, even if someone guesses correctly before that, so 2:30am eastern on Friday, or longer if no correct answer has been posted.

Winner of the first prize is out of the running for the second prize.

All guesses are to be posted to the board, not by PM. There will be no hints unless this is still open after three days. I will check regularly and note the winner when I see the winning answer.

1st prize is a 1972 Lincoln Memorial cent DDO-003 slabbed PCGS MS65RD. Has a fair bit of purple toning but it graded RD.

2nd prize is a 1964-D Lincoln Memorial cent with a large clipped planchet.

The story:

In a small town in the US there is a coin store run by Albus Doubledie specializing in rare coins and has a stock of varieties that bring in buyers from far and wide. The store is quiet, well-lit, and buyers can even use the provided scopes to really look at the coins for sale.

One cold day, with the temperature barely crossing 32 degrees, Mr. Long walks into the store, says "Hi" to Albus. He then presents him with a short list of the coins he most wants. Albus visits the back of the store and returns with five coins. Mr. Long sits in a cubicle and studies the coins for many minutes. Finally he returns to the counter and tells Albus he will take three coins. Albus takes a few seconds to see what Mr. Long is buying, writes up a receipt, and Mr. Long pays his bill. He walks out of the store with these three coins:

1982 Lincoln Memorial cent DDO-001, FS-101
1917 Lincoln Wheat cent DDO-001, FS-101
1913 Lincoln Cent Matte Proof

He is happy with his purchases, and as he is leaving he passes his friend Mr. Latit coming in. They briefly exchange pleasantries, before Mr. Long zips up his coat and heads out.

Mr. Latit approaches the counter, and Albus asks him what brings him in today. "Well I'd like to see six coins if you have them." He presents Albus with his list and shortly he is in his cubicle looking over the coins closely.

Not needing long to make his decisions, he returns to the counter and also tells Albus he would like three coins. Albus again peers at the coins chosen, writes up a receipt, and presents them to Mr. Latit. The coins on the receipt are:

1935 Lincoln Wheat cent DDO-001, FS-101
1927 Lincoln Wheat cent DDO-001, FS-101
1905 Indian Head cent Snow 1, FS 301

With his bill paid, Mr. Latit says goodbye to Albus and heads out, but not before remembering to zip up his coat as well, as it is cold out.

So, what town is the store in?

Great, creative idea for a contest. Thanks TB.

igwt79 might have it pegged but the brick and mortar would be hard pressed to offer decent coins in such a corrosive environment.

My guess is Fletcher, North Carolina.

FALSE. English numismatic wizards are only found in poorly lit shops amid the maze of alleys near Gringotts. I once overpaid a goblin there for a key date medieval sickle with tripled denticles, but it graded Details: Hexed, true story! Also, coin collecting is for Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs—everybody knows that Gryffindors only care for Quiddich, butterbeer, and horcrux hunting. And even the Hufflepuffs are mostly just folder-fillers from circulation finds.

The shop is in Columbus, NC on a lane with a clever name. =)

True story... Albus doubleddie was born and raised in the small town of Santa Rita, New Mexico, not far from the Chino Mine. Albus was arrested by the Mexican authorities for pilfering copper from the mine. Albus broke out of prison with the assistance of partners in crime, and soon thereafter illegally crossed the border, and took root in Carlsbad, New Mexico. To evade detection, Albus decided upon a surname change and became Albus doubledie. Albus and cohorts set up shop in Carlsbad and began minting copper cents from their purloined stash and passing them off as real error coins with modest success. The side business soon thrived and Albus decided to open a shop and become dealer of coin rarities; however, to further evade detection of past activities, Albus moved to Bat City North Carolina. Albus doubledie now has a very profitable and lucrative business, the fake coins are so good that they have fooled all third party graders. Mr. Long and Mr. Latit are not the first and will not be the last to be fooled and happily pay the price for Albus' counterfeit copper rarities. However, the authorities have lately become aware of Albus' scam, and the Pinkerton Agency has hired the famous C.C. Bobby Forum to track and close down the nefarious Albus doubledie rare coin shop for good. It's only a matter of time now
