I'll say EF-40, just so-so eye appeal.

I can't quite tell, but are those scratches or die cracks running from the M and R on the reverse across the wings and shield? Otherwise agree that XF40 sounds about right.

I don't have it in hand yet, but I am positive the one running through the M is a die crack because it doesn't look incuse. I can't say for the other one, but I'll assume it it as well. I can return the coin if it turns out to be a scratch, though.

EF that's cleaned pretty bad. Notice the strong detail without luster. Surfaces are uniform in color and dead.

The more I look at it, I think I agree. Toning too shallow. Cleaned and re-toned.

looks like a scratch which continues through the eagles wing and into the shield. The more I look, the more I feel both are scratches.

I agree with Greasy, both are scratches. In the field between the M and Wing does look raised but zoom in and follow the trajectory, definite scratch thru wing and shield.
I swing a metal detector and have a knack for finding dirty old coins.
