I'm looking for recommendations on books about Australian coins. Is there a book analogous to the Red Book? What about numismatic history or grading? I'm hoping to start working on a set of florins but want to buy the book before the coin.

Yes Renniks is available on Amazon or Oz ebay.
Dealers will ship it to the US.

Greg Mcdonald's "guide to Australian Coins and Banknotes" is also good,i think 2022 is the latest release but all the earlier books are available on ebay Oz.

Thanks! Is one book more useful than the other? How do they compare regarding numismatic history and grading? I'm more interested in information about the coins themselves than pricing info.

By far the best books on Australian coins are by Dr David Briggs. I have a copy of a number of his books such as that on the florin. The "However" part is that they were only published as limited runs (perhaps only 100 copies of each denomination) and those of us with those copies hold on to them. Maybe there is a copy in your national library or your national numismatic society might have a copy.

Plenty of Coin books come and go on Oz. ebay, just a matter of coaxing them into posting to the USA.

Renniks was the only one I could find available that shipped from the USA, so I ordered a paperback copy of the 31st edition on AbeBooks. The 32nd edition was also available for about $10 more, but I decided the 31st should be sufficient.

McDonald is not available in the US, except for a copy from 2000. I didn't realize how challenging it is to source Australian books in the USA, but it makes sense.

I should clarify my interest is in pre-decimal coinage: history, grading, and general information.

My preference is McDonalds as it goes into more details, at least as far as decimal coins are concerned.
I don't have a recent Renniks but I think the older ones actually went into a bit more detail on predecimal coins.

The Briggs books are good and Jon Saxton's website was a good reference.
