This looks like damage. I'm not sure how there got to be raised metal behind Washington's head or under the horse.

Like I said Sport, I've stared at this and was baffled also. That's a LOT of damage.

It's heat damage. High heat causes the outer clad layer to separate and bubble up. You'd be surprised how often they show up here!

Yes, have seen many coins like this, it is for sure fire damage.

Hey keep the quarter, get another opinion. Just in case. We are human and can make mistakes. The 1999 Ceasar Rodney Delaware quarter. They were experimenting with different planchets and metals in 1999 for the Sacajewea dollar...

This coin doesn't need a second opinion. It's 100% heat damage. We see these a lot on here. Just a heat damaged coin as stated before.

I have seen many new people think they see something odd on a coin so.They ask the experts, which is good but they will not accept what they are told. I probably did the same thing. Try to understand the are teaching you in the right direction of collecting coins. Trust what they say and learn. This forum is set up for learning with good people teaching.
