Pictures could be better, but based on what I can see it looks to be in really good shape. A central vertical fold that "breaks" the paper is visible from both sides. The paper appears to be very clean with no tears or stains that usually plague notes from this period. Grade-wise, I'd call it "VF35 to XF45". Overall, a very nice note, not "rare", but still worth several thousand dollars to the right buyer. You can check ebay "sold" listings to see what similar notes have sold for. You can also check Heritage (ha.com) sold listings, too. Wonderful note worthy of being slabbed in a TPG holder!

34A series on a common district Chicago.. Looks VF30 or 35. A couple of closed staple holes. Some light black ink smeared on back. Should be graded or put in a better sleeve.

As CoolBreeze mentioned, the Chicago district is the most popular of the 1934A $1,000 FRNs. These were once available for a modest premium over face value. But recently, $500 and $1,000 have gained popularity and even an example like this will sell for approximately double face value. I highly recommend having it graded and encapsulated by either PMG or PCGS.

Agree with Steve, have it graded. Guessing you might sell it for even more than twice face..

Grade it without a doubt

Yes to all of the above comments. It is a valuable note that should be professionally graded or at least sealed in a rigid, archival quality currency note holder.
I would guesstimate its value close to $3,000 USD. If your friend is interested in selling this note there are many eager buyers for pieces such as this one.
If not professionally graded, I recommend he leave it in the sleeve it's in and have a person experienced in handling high dollar notes place and seal it in a rigid holder. Thanks for sharing this super cool note with us!
