I came across this penny and noticed the reverse is very thick. A DDR is listed at Wexler: https://doubleddie.com/828865.html

My question is, would this be considered that coin as this penny seems much thicker.

Sorry, not a DDR. The Wexler listing shows split serifs on AMERICA.

Thanks for responding. I should have posted a picture of America, here is one showing the split sarifs. I should rephrase my question. If looking at DDR's on Wexler or VV, does the thickness need to also match? I notice there are different stages such as A, B, C, etc. Do stages represent strike or something else?

Die markers have to match exactly. There's also later die stages as well. I'm not sure if you have WDDR-001.

I want to ensure I am getting split serif's correct. Here are better pics. Are the below split serif's?

Tough call..might be DDR might be light reflection doubling.Try viewing the coin with your light source 180 degrees from where it is now. Either way DDR or regular cent, your coin is in wonderful condition for its age and would make a great album coin.

Thanks. I'm more so trying to learn how to spot these and make sure I match them up correctly to the references online.

I would have to agree that is caused by lighting. The C and A that you show have "doubling" pointing at each other, this does not happen with Doubled dies, they will go in the same direction. Do 1/4 turns with your coin, not changing the light. If it is a doubled die, you will see it with each 1/4 turn, if not, it's something else.

@rlu7732 turn the coin upside down and retake those close up shots, show us what it's like.

@rhu7732: When you look at a listing, the first thing to do is read the description. This gives you the relevant area(s) at. Then the pictures which I tend to look for the easiest doubling to spot first (in this case the lower R in America). After your satisfied that the doubling matches, you then look for the die markers. (Wexler's tends to list more markers than VV.) Markers can get a bit tricky as they can change with die state.
