Oldest clip I've found. Pretty cool.

Very cool find! Is this out of the new box you posted on "coin roll hunting"?

Yes, this is one from the newest box. Hopefully there is more to come.

Devils advocate...could it have been filed away and smoothed over due to circulation?

Are you sure that it's not PMD?

E&V and Greasy Fingers..... It is possibly PMD. However, if it is PMD it would have had to have been damaged a long time ago (100+ years ago). I do appreciate your skepticism as it validates this is a rare find in circulation. I maintain it is a legitimate MD clip and have no problem offering it to the community as genuine.

I still don't think it's a genuine Clipped Planchet. Not seeing the Blakesley Effect or weakness near the area. Also, I've seen some that looked exactly like this that were just damaged post mint. https://www.error-ref.com/_curved_clips_/

I have contacted Mike Diamond to get his input. I'm very skeptical on this one being real. Until Mike Diamond speaks, I am still thinking it's not genuine Clipped Planchet.

Not trying to sound like a jerk or anything. I just want to know if it's actually genuine or not.

Definitely not one of my strong points when it comes to errors, but I thought it looked right.

Not being a jerk either, but I'm sure you know not all clips have the Blakesley Effect.

@NY ,are you able to post a focused close ups of the areas in question, the edge, obverse rim above the TRUST and reverse rim below the Wheat stalk stem? I'm having a tough time to determine wheather it is a clip or not.

I'm in the PMD camp here. Looks like an old hit that was smoothed through circulation.

Weight could help determine this though its likely underweight due to circulation wear.

Additional images. There does appear to be a 105 year old Blakesley Effect on the reverse opposite the clip.

Got an email from Mike Diamond, after emailing him. Here's what he said.

Quote:
It's not genuine. It lacks every diagnostic one would associate with a straight clip.

So it's indeed not genuine.
