Going through my monthly collected change and I can't determine if this consider 'damage'. Upon visual inspection with the naked eye - the obverse side of the coin looks to be in pretty good condition - id say AU+.. All of the normal high contact points you would expect to show its wear / damage are in fact there.. which prompt me to put this under the microscope.. because at first glance - it looks like a RPM. But.. I typically hunt Lincoln cents and I'm pretty familiar with what we are looking for on RPM strikes.. and this is why I'm left with a head scratch and looking for the communities input!

This is at 10,000 magnification - Let me know what you all think! I'm leaning towards damage.

Thank you so much for everyones time!

I did find this post http://goccf.com/t/394788 and I should have included the other images of the Quarter to help give more validity to the question / curiosity..

And after looking at it in this perspective. It is obvious it is damage from normal ware.

Broken mintmark post on the die, combined with some circulation damage. The center of the mintmark on the die is a pretty small post and often breaks with die wear.

Very common, I'd have spent it by now.

Really nice close-up pic @sinn, but I agree with the others that a broken post while interesting, doesn't add to the numismatic value.

This has happened to hundreds of thousands of mint marks, very common with no extra value. Yes, just a broken post on die as explained above.
