I don't normally collect error coins, but I came across these two higher grade Lincoln Wheat Cents on ebay and put in a successful bid for them. Both have nice clips on them. I especially like the 1947-D. It's a beautiful mint state coin and an error. Thanks for giving me a place to share them. Paul Bulgerin

What are the odds of finding two Lincoln cents, minted three years apart, with virtually identical clips?

I have thought about that. I read up on clips before bidding. The 1944 has the weakness on the spot of the reverse across from the clip, which my reading said was a sign of authenticity, but I am far from an expert.

It's actually a 1947-S. The seller had it listed as a 1947-D and I guess I didn't look at the mint mark closely.

Ah ok thx for clarifying. I wasn't sure about the vertical line on the right side of the letter S.

Agree, really nice coins with clipped planchets! Can you show a close-up of the '47-S Mint Mark. It looks a bit curious.

very nice clipped planchets!, but nfine called out what I saw right away - nearly identical locations of them.

It's a normal "S" mint mark. The apparent "line" on the right side is just glare from the light I used.
