I'll say VG.
Errers and Varietys.

Looking at PCGS online photo grade it would be G4. If the jaw line was defined it could be VG.

It's got some corrosion with active verdigris. Calling BadThad because he'll have the best advice for you on conserving.
It does appear genuine with G/VG details. I'd want it authenticated if I was buying it (unless really cheap) because it's a key date worth $100 even in that condition.

Thank you for the opinions!
I am interested if there are any recommendations for conservation or if that is recommended?

I'd submerge it in pure acetone for a few hours. Then remove it and rinse with water then pat dry with a soft cloth. No harm in trying that first but BadThad is metallurgical and chemical expert when it comes to these things. I'll send him a PM directing him to this thread.

Somethings off...location of mint mark? What's the back story of this coin? Even in this condition....should be slabbed

Got it from my LCS. Part of a book collection the store got. I'm confident it is legitimate. I'm a little worried about the environmental damage but want to know what people think it would grade. I'm between G/VG, but lean VG.

Genuine. I see enough wheat lines for G-6, nearly VG, but the ear is almost gone - close call but I like to be conservative. CONGRATS on owning one! They only made about a million and over half of them are probably gone to attrition.
I wouldn't fiddle with this coin. Some things are best left alone. I'm certain the surface residue could be improved but the cost to the originality of the coin is too high. The patina under that residue will be different and create an obvious cleaning - which to me at least - is worse than living with the original residue.
Dehydration with acetone, 5 minute soak, remove and put into an airtite to slow the progression of the corrosion. As long as the airtite/coin are stored properly, it will be fine for decades as it is.
If submitted, it will not slab IMO. It would get flagged with "environmental issues". The only advantage would be to get a genuine tag but the cost is not worth it. It's quite obvious the coin is genuine on its own merit.

it would slab imo as G details (ED)
personally I would not pay to have it slabbed. not worth it imo especially if you plan on keeping it as the coin is genuine - obverse die #2
i would go with Badthads advice. I'm betting there is already some corrosion under some of that verdigris though especially under the bust line.

I want to thank BadThad for lending his expertise to this thread. He says it's genuine and tells you how to best preserve this key date for yourself and future generations. :)

VG-10 details, almost full wheat ears. Looks like it spent some time in the ground and got a cleaning awhile back.
