Came across a good looking 71 quarter, it's got this odd line that goes down the back behind the letters and seems to continue all the way down thru the eagles wing. Anybody seen anything like this, or can tell me anything about it?

If it's raised, it may be a die crack .

Your first pic, coming from the rim and running down through UM of UNUM is a die crack, what is down in the wing area, as igwt79 has pointed out, is from a die clash. Two separate anomalies but possibly related, as die cracks are sometimes directly related to clashing that cause the die to weaken.

ADDED: By the way,

Top is a die crack, middle is the clashed outline of Washington's hair.

Interesting. Got it out of a roll I got from the bank today. It's in great shape to be from 71. Wonder what kind of value it may be worth?

A couple of bucks at most, if you found the perfect buyer. Put it in a cardboard 2x2 and label it for a learning piece for yourself to refer to.

Maybe you should post full pics of both coin faces. On a good day, a decent die clash on a relatively big coin can fetch more than $2 on ebay.

Nice coin! A die crack up top and the rest is a clash. IMO they are much less common with Washingtons than Lincoln's. I have a small collection of them.
