All the Kennedy half dollars has the spike in the same location. Running off the bottom of the bust between the 19 to the rim.
96P has it also plus an upper spike.
This 97P has the crack running all along the bottom of the bust.
It isn't listed on COC.

Why do you think the dies crack there?
Could it be that the bust is to deep in that area and to close to the rim ?

Nice Die Crack. Maybe it's the weak point of the die?

When I was role searching I found out that this is a common die crack in the 90s. I assumed it was because of the design location and stresses one minting. I found this on 94s, 95s and 96s

. That's what I was thinking. To much pressure in that area with to much metal. Then the area between the rim and bust has to give.

Exactly, more so on 1996 halves and it is also seen on the reverse with a die crack extending from the tip of the left Eagle's wing ( viewer's right wing ) to the rim.
