Hi;
This 1972 Lincoln Memorial has a deformed face and on reverse has a swirl error that must have pushed the metal up to deform his face. Trying ti figure if it is a business or mint error. Believe metal had to be soft to make his face look like it does. Any suggestions woukd be appreciated. Marshall

The circular/twisting appearance could be due to a Gumball Machine or similar. Unfortunately, PMD.

It is damage of some sort, doesn't really matter what kind.
No way for that to happen during the striking of the cent.

Gum ball, slot machine, under a chair leg or table leg who knows what. What ever happened it is now just damaged.

1972......Older homes had screw in fuses in the electrical boxes and if you didn't have a replacement at the time one would use a penny.

Yes Greasy Fingers, I worked on a few of those old houses, they only had two wires with no ground for electric called tube wires. Great homes to metal detect around.
