I see that the wear on many of the high spots (TJ's hair, orbital ridge and cheekbone, jawline, collar and shoulder) are free of discoloration, which suggests that it has worn off with circulation. I think an improper allow mix would go deeper than just a few hundred microns into the coin. Report this Post to the Staff

At first, I saw a nice "woodie" nickel with border line lam issues but after reading your statement, I see a nickel with environmental issues that would explain everything.
