1964 Penny Struck On A Clad Dime Planchet?

Hey! I found this penny in my grandfathers coin bucket. I'm still very new to coin collecting, but this coin stood out to me because of its gray coloring, rather than the usual brown coloring. It also has a weird texture.

I think it was struck on a clad dime planchet because the rim and image become less visible from right to left.

According to my scale it weighs 3.28 grams.

Looks like it was dipped/coated in something. The first thing that popped into my mind was aluminum roof coating.

I probably should have further elaborated, I'm not entirely sure if this dime was actually struct onto a clad dime planchet, so if you have some insight, please let me know!

3.28 grams is well over the 2.268 grams a dime planchet would weigh. 3.28g is right in line with a copper cent planchet that has been dipped/coated in something.
