Hi everyone,

I recently came across this 1971-D Kennedy half dollar with what looks like a possible error in the chin/neck area. The lower part of the profile seems slightly shifted compared to a normal example from the same year. I'm attaching a side-by-side comparison for reference.

Could this be a misaligned die, hub doubling, or some other kind of mint error? Or is it just post-mint damage?

Would appreciate any opinions on whether this has collector interest or added value.

Thank you!

A bit hard to tell on such a small picture but I would guess Machine Doubling. I looked through VV and didn't see anything similar - all the doubling was associated with the letters and numbers, not Kennedy's profile area.

@aga, first welcome to CCF. Second, Machine Doubling seems to be the most likely reason to me too. I've taken the liberty of cropping and enlarging your close-up picture.
