Hello Community Members,

Hope you all are doing well.

I got this 1853 Half Dime which appears to be a MS62 or better to my eyes. Would appreciate your inputs. Apologies for not so good pictures as they are seller pictures.

Thanks in advance!

I think it looks a Choice Unc 63. Beautifully original and lustrous.

I see tilted coin images which leads me to believe there may be something to hide.

Pics are too blurry to grade accurately. I cant tell if there is strike weakness or slight rub on the reverse or if this coin had possibly been cleaned since the pics are not sharp enough.

I would avoid this coin. As noted above, the pictures are immediately suspect. Impossible to say for sure from the pics, but it looks like there is wear on the high points, so I think it's AU. There are also clusters of scratches in the left obverse field and near Liberty's cap. Not worth the gamble, IMO.

Thanks for all your inputs. I agree the pictures are not great and it's a gamble. I got this coin for around 120$ which will be a good price even if its an AU uncleaned coin. Hoping for the best :-)

I'm going with that the seller knew what they were doing in presenting these photos. hoping the best for you but I'm betting there are issues with it. scratches on the obv. the lighting is throwing off a lot glare obscuring the surfaces. i'll go with AU details (scratched). there is shot for UNC details though. for now. hopefully you have return privileges in case you need it. repost when you get it

I see enough rub on the obverse (Liberty's knee, especially) to call this AU. Might still be a nice coin. Maybe you can post new photos after you get it.

Sharper photos need, but this might be MS details.
