Just curious about this. I feel like I never see people doing sets of Washington quarters honestly. Now when I say Washington quarters, I mean literally the series from 1932-1998, before all State Quarter and other series got started.

It seems like it would be a really cool set. I'd like to start one, but the lack of being able to find a Dansco album for me is slowing my progress.

I know there are tons of older silver coins, but outside of the 1932-S, they don't seem to be too expensive.

The silver ones will not often be found in circulation. I am 12 away from finishing the silver runs of these. The 1932 D and S ones are the ones which are the key dates.

I mean, yeah. Of course not. A lot of coins that people collect generally can't be found in circulation, though.
They can be purchased obviously.

There are many coin series that can't be found in circulation.
I collect both Buffalo and Liberty nickels, which generally can't be found in circulation, at least easily.
But I guess the silver aspect in the early years is probably enough to put off most people.

I agree. Along with Jefferson nickels and Roosevelt dimes, I think that it might be one of the easiest sets in terms of coin availability. For sure it still takes dedication and effort, but def worth it!

I see it the opposite way..... For me personally, I have little to no interest except for errors perhaps in modern coins. They're overproduced by millions, see them everyday in change so the interest is just not there for me. They will have just face and value. They will be a hard sell because no one needs them since they're pretty easy to acquire.
For Washington quarters I really just have the 1932, 1932-s, 1932-d and a few silver ones here and there from metal detecting. I would only keep the ones that I found metal detecting because it was a challenge in acquiring them. That would be true for the Roosevelt dimes as well. I would only want the ones I dug up or found at a coin star or perhaps even just a toned set. But to each their own. I would never tell someone not to collect them if it interests them. But, I would think the ease in acquiring them still in circulation by their mass productions would be a turn off to many, Plus, if one isn't getting the best of the best, then the chance of them going up in value is slim to none, except for the older ones and errors.

I forgot. I do have all the State Quarters. A person I used to work with knew I collected coins and gave me his set of State Quarters someone gave him as a gift...He wasn't a collector and had no interest in them..so I took him out for lunch before he took a new job elsewhere for payment and to wish him well.

These days, concerning the Washington quarters, anything above AU50 is costly to complete, as not many of the dates mentioned are in circulation anymore...
I have bought and found very few 1932; ("found" from friends)...

I have a collection of Washington quarters--not a hoard necessarily, but a collection.

I have the set, complete in a Dansco 8140. I really like it.

I bought the 1932-D and 1932-S in 1997, before the Statehood Quarter series brought new collectors and drove the prices way up.

Maybe a blessing and a curse? Being able to fill holes easily and consistently may help keep younger/newer collectors interested. Of course you are right though that the upside potential is fairly low, aside from the appreciation of silver.

But Spence, all child collectors start with the easy ones.....There probably wouldn't be collectors if they didn't. Parents all around are most likely thankful collecting those won't break the bank and it gives a child a hobby to be interested in. I don't want to conflate children collectors with others. We all started with the easy ones.....the ones in circulation. For me, it was the ones my grandfather gave me which he acquired in WWII, and then the Lincoln Cent soon followed.

I'm working on an uncirculated set of Washington quarters in a Dansco 7140 album. I had to buy the album used because they are hard to find. Assembling a circulated set is easy, but a BU set is much more difficult. I've found dealers don't have many of the early dates available, and even finding problem-free common dates is surprisingly difficult. The demand definitely isn't there.

It could be that the recent quarter series (State, ATB, and Women) take up all the oxygen for modern collectors, while those focusing on classic coins look to SLQ, Barber, or Seated quarters. That leaves the standard Washington series out in the cold.

Yes. They are nearly impossible. They sometimes pop up on ebay, but are normally used or brand new for a ridiculous price.

There are a couple right now on ebay, but have some issues due to being used.

On the website I normally buy Dansco albums from, the proof only album is of course in stock but not the 7140. Really annoying.

Noooooooooo. I refuse. Lol.

I don't mind so much the proofs, but I don't really like diving into the expensive silver proofs.

That is understandable.
