I know this really isn't an error, so apologies in advance. Do you guys think this is a die crack? At first I would say absolutely but the way the crack hits the rim makes me wonder if this could be a PMD type of thing going on.

Looks like a thin piece of the rim got sheared off and misplaced. Not sure if during the minting process or after.

Hmm, to me this looks like a die crack. I'll be interested to see where we net out on this one.

looks like a die crack , with possibilities of becoming a retained Die Cud , a clear picture of the right wheat way show the connection to the rim , north of the original staring point .

Looks like a crack if it is raised then it is for sure.

Here is a pic of the OP's closeup over the full coin shot and where I think the strip came from. Looks like you can see where it got sheared from marke in red and I circled an area in yellow that looks thinner, like a ribbon would if it were on it's edge. Plus the area looks brighter, as it would if it were sheared off. Just what I see, could be wrong.

I'm thinking die crack. Lighting used in the photography may be influencing our assessment.

-makecents- makes an interesting case - the "crack" does go up and onto the rim.

I'm going with die crack, but I do like makecents thought on this as well.

Quote: I'm going with die crack, but I do like makecents thought on this as well I agree, especially when looking at the yellow circled area in makecents post. Looks a bit odd for a "typical" crack - but I've only seen a few.

OK, going back to makecents annotated image that was initially posted by the OP above, I think that the area circled in yellow is a normal part of the die crack. There was a tiny bit of movement of the die part that went to the southeast. The 'skinny' part of the die crack id just because of the way it slid, other parts of the die crack widened more because of the angle of the crack in relation to the movement. I used the same image and added what I think in blue....
