Just came back from my state LCS with a truckload of trade cause I was getting tired of not having the final coin to complete my set of Lincoln cents. I was looking for at least PCGS XF-40 or better 1909-S VDB and I checked their inventory and they had four to choose from. Turns out the one I traded for was a lovely straight grade PCGS XF-45, but this is where the conundrum arises... In hand, this coin looks better than a 45, to my eyes looks more consistent with at least an AU-55 or a little better today. I determined the type of slab matches those made for PCGS from 10/2005-12/2011. Pictures don't do this coin justice, as this was not easy to photograph through the slabs plastic. I won't say how much I paid for this, because I may submit this coin for an upcoming GTP round coming up (with better pictures! ) I may try again later with better pictures... Now my Lincoln cents set is finally complete I may soon get better pictures... Oh yes, here is the slab information: Edited by mrwhatisit 07/22/2025 10:22 pm

Congratulations on completing the set. That is a nice-looking coin but I'm not sure there is enough detail in his hair to get to AU. The reverse images aren't clear enough for me to tell how strong and clear the wheat lines are. Here's an image of mine graded as EF 45 by ANACS and I thought it might get to AU as well.

Awesome looking coin! Pics are a little dark but I think I agree with PCGS.

Quote: graded as EF 45 by ANACS and I thought it might get to AU as well I'd bump that coin to AU-50 because the wheat grains are very sharp still! The OP's coin shows some flatness in the grains.

Congrats on finishing the Lincoln set. If your pictures are correct then the wheat grains do look to be a bit flattened as stated by BadThad.

What an awesome accomplishment, congrats! I suspect this will be a hole in my set for a long time. As for the grade, I agree with BadThad at EF-45.

Congrats on completing the set! That's a nice looking example. Well done. I'll never win this argument, but I'll keep making it: the TPGs need to open an EF-48 grade, and the first one to do so wins the reslabbing wars. Your coin would be a spot on example of EF-48. Several coin series could benefit from that grade, especially Buffs, SLQs, and Morgans, but the tough dates in particular in the other sets could benefit, too.
