Quote:How exactly can you tell the difference between the plating disturbance and Die Deterioration Doubling? The plating disturbance info says it is raised from the surface but how do you tell that from pictures? In my very limited novice experience, the plating disturbance goes in multiple directions, not just towards the rim, you can see this in the OP's coin. Also, I see little or no heavy flow lines or sunburst that you will see from a highly deteriorated die. Lastly, that is the first thing that pops into my head when I see this type of anomaly with a zincoln, Occam's razor, and then look for what does not support Die Deterioration. To me, it most definitely looks raised. Just my opinion though, still learning with you, Marve.

Quote: When first noticed the Date shows like a doubling. You were correct in what you saw, just not the kind of doubling you want to find. This is extremely common and just an issue with this particular coin type, copper plated zinc coins have many issues. Stay at it and ask questions, you will learn if you stick with it.
