Harvesting Silver Half Dollars Set Aside By The Pizza-Fed Teller & Then The Silver Coins In The Box

Recently I've found so much silver in bank-rolled half dollar boxes I've acquired at the same local branch of a regional bank that during the past three weeks I've purchased pizza lunch twice for the employees. When I stopped there yesterday afternoon to purchase two more boxes, one of the tellers told me that he had set aside what he thought were three silver half dollars a customer cashed the previous day. Indeed they were -- an unattractive 1964 Kennedy half dollar, plus two nicer coins that contain 40% silver.

The first box had a 40% silver ender -- but I found only two more 40% silver coins in it, including another 1968 half dollar with an Apollo 8 sticker on the reverse. The second box (which had two 40% silver enders) was much better. It contained a Franklin half dollar, a 1964 Kennedy half dollar, and 12 40% silver coins. I also found about two dozen NIFCs in this box. I don't collect these coins -- so I released them back into the wild.

During the past three months, I've found 11 ounces of silver in 56 half dollars in the boxes I've acquired at this location. For some reason this branch consistently keeps tapping into one large coin collection dump or several smaller ones.
