This is my newest pic. It's been graded EF+. Does the little black toning spot on the third arrow hurt this coin?

What a nice, original coin. I'd call it XF40. The carbon spot would be a minor detraction, not particularly damaging to the value.

Your photographs have vastly improved in the short time you've been posting them. Great stuff.

I agree with super dave.... The spot doesn't really hurt the coin. I mean I would say a coin without it is better than with, but it is a nice EF example.

Based on the rough handling my Seated halves received from PCGS last time around, I think this one would top out at VF-35. It's a nice, original coin and I agree the black spot is not a significant problem at this grade level.

I know I've seen it mentioned before, but when it comes to grading, is PCGS stricter than NGC and ANACS?

And can they compare to the astute graders we have here on the forum?

Given the subjective nature of grading, I'm probably remiss in generalizing, but....

PCGS seems to have lurched in the direction of pessimistic grading over the last few years, after having led the entire industry into a "market grading" orientation during the early part of the decade. I consider NGC to be a little optimistic these days, and ANACS to be the most consistent coin-to-coin, if a little optimistic themselves.

Myself, I tend to market grade. Susan would agree with Jaobler; she grades pretty strictly to ANA standards. I should mention this fact more often when assigning grades.
Rest in Peace

I'm going with Jaobler. VF-35. This doesn't quite make the XF cut in my opinion. Nice original coin though.
