On May 19, 2025, I submitted 13 Lincoln cents to PCGS for grading with variety attribution. On July 1, 2025, I received 13 graded Lincoln cents from PCGS but none of them had a variety attribution. My initial reaction was to seriously question the competency of the PCGS graders in attributing varieties. However, common sense told me that the PCGS graders probably hadn't missed all of them. Clearly, I needed a bit of help ... quite a bit of help.
So, I started uploading presumptive doubled die Lincoln cents to the CCF. It wasn't an easy process because all I wanted was confirmation that I was correct. But that's ... uhhh ... not what I got. What I got was critical feedback about every coin that I uploaded. And in just a couple months of intensive posting of coin photos, I was able to amass a gold mine of information on how to identify doubled dies.
On September 9, 2025, I submitted 8 Lincoln cents to PCGS. Each submitted coin had been vetted by CCF members and I included the full, verbatim "thread" of text for each of the 8 coins. I also included multiple photos with arrows pointing to areas of doubling and major die markers. Today, I received the results of grading and variety attribution. ALL of the 8 submitted Lincoln were attributed with the presumptive variety. Many thanks to all of the CCF members who commented on my posts.
If anyone is interested, each submitted doubled die variety is listed below with the corresponding PCGS Cert#:
