I shopped at Home Depot late this afternoon and when I received my change, I glanced at it and thought the quarter looked somewhat shiner than I was used to. I thought perhaps it was the latest newly minted American Women issue.

When I got home and checked, my mind was blown. It was a 1985-S proof! I'd never gotten a proof coin in change before.

As you can see, it's been around a bit. The mirrors are a bit dull and the eagle has some dirt smudged just above its left wing tip. But that doesn't bother me at all. Chalk up another first in my coin collecting career.
