Mint 1979 Proof Error Penny - Coin Community Forum

Sap Moderator Australia 16817 Posts	Posted 02/01/2026 04:56 am Yes, sorry, but "stains" don't count as a mint error. Looks like a smudged fingerprint to me, but that's beside the point. It might have happened in the mint, it might have happened if someone opened up the mint set and handled the coin. Since it might have happened after the coin was released from the mint and there's no real way to prove it one way or the other, it doesn't count as a mint error. Sorry, but the coin now qualifies as an "impaired proof". Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C.
