I was wondering if someone might be able to help me figure out which VAM this 1878 7TF is. It's challenging for me because there are so many for this date, but I've looked and looked and can't seem to find a match. Here are the things I see: 1. Doubled or tripled LIBERTY with polished L 2. Double R in PLURIBUS 3. Slight doubling of star number 4 on left. 4. Possible broken D in DOLLAR I've included photos of these 4 items, plus a few additional. Thanks!

Very nice high grade long nock! Zurie has things well in hand for you and would agree on attribution. Here is a link to the reverse of 84A which shows the later die stage and the cracking around the perimeter seems to match yours. Reverse of the VAM-84A. https://vamworld.com/w/images/3/3f/...4A_REV_3.jpg

Thank you all so much!
I use an inexpensive microscope connected to my pc to look for markers - and this coin definitely shows its limitations. The line under the 8 is key here, and I cannot see it at all with my PC microscope. But with my loupe holding the coin at certain angles, it really shows up.
Much appreciated!

After taking a closer look -- I think it might be 84A. I don't really see the clashing, perhaps my brain wants to imagine it. But the die cracks through UNITED STATES and off the 3rd right star don't seem to be there in the 84 examples.
Again, thank you!

Quote: ok, what is a 'long nock'? John, look at any of your Morgans and you will notice the "nock" at the end of the arrow is shorter than the nock on this example and the OP's example. It and is only on a select few of the 78P 78S. If you have one, it's worth more than they typical Morgan dollar. I have circled it in red. There is a link above I have provided.

They're only found in 1878 Morgans, which have parallel arrow feathers, and they are especially uncommon in 1878-S Morgans. Here's an old thread that has a good photo comparison of long nock vs short nock. https://goccf.com/t/37658
