The US mint has come up with two designs to mock commemorate the Walker and the Mercury dime in 2026.

First we have the Aquaman dime. For reasons known only to him, he is attacking a city with a sword and wearing wings on is helmet.

Modern-So-Called-Mint-Artists-Vs.-AI

Next we see where Lady Liberty has decided to show off her martial arts prowess with a stance known in Karate as the "Horse Riding Stance" or "Kiba Dachi." Ladies and Gentlemen, we introduce the Karate-Chop Liberty design!

I had an AI make a design. The first thing it came up with is on the right below. The prompt was "create a new half dollar design that would be worthy to commemorate Adolph Weinman's artistic talents." I put the Ai design below side by side with Chopping Liberty.

The US mint has sunk to new lows. They actually paid someone for Chopping-Liberty and AI makes a regal looking design like that for free in seconds. Now which do you think Weinmann would like?

An artist may say, but using AI takes the humanity aspect out of the process.

If Chopping Liberty and Aquaman's City Attack is the best modern humanity can do...I say the humanity aspect NEEDS to be removed. While the two new designs might have some merit on their own way as a new twist, comparing them side by side makes the attempt at commemorating laughable.

Call me contrarian, but I like the medal designs. I just wish I could get them without forking over for the gold coins that go with them.

OK...you are a contrarian...but you like Pepsi so it's OK

Like I said, they have their own artistic value, but side by side with original AW designs just makes me think he would be offended that this is somehow said to commemorate HIS work.

To "commemorate" is to call to remembrance. These designs have nowhere near the beauty and regal look of all of weinman's work. He did sculptures for the Pan Pac as well.

When seeing the new ones my first thought is not like the AI representation. The AI has a definite hint to Weinman's talent. I don't have to consciously think it...it's just there. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

My initial thoughts when seeing the 2026 dime was, what suh a weird outfit that looks like aquaman (the scales I guess). The Chopping Liberty was exactly that - karate chop and why?

I do like the eagle on the REV of Chopping Liberty, but not in comparison to AW's eagle.

I think with the real Walker being one of the most appreciated designs, the AI version would likely be welcomed and liked by just about any collector.

Come to think of it, I would love to see the AI as a real half. Maybe have a LIberty Bell on the back or some sort of shield, etc.?

To each their own. I am more puzzled they are doing 2016 tributes again in 2026.

As concerned as I am about A.I. taking jobs from humans, that Weinmann inspired A.I. Half makes the Chopper look like kiddie art in comparison. I hope Ms. Chopper never makes it off of the design screen.

Honestly, I'd like to see some stability returned to our coinage, and get away from the quarter century of multiple issues pouring out of the Mints annually. Especially when low quality junk is even seriously considered.

I'm ok with Aquaman, it's very Art Deco. I also like how the design is carried over from obverse to reverse.

Chopper can take a hike.

Maybe with the insane price increases, there is now enough profit to no longer need such a deep bench on the product list.

I like the dime. quarter, and half medals maybe because as previously mentioned they have an art deco appearance to them.

The paired gold coins are dated 1916 (which has absolutely NOTHING to do with 2026 or is the anniversary year of anything) which may be (highly unlikely) why they went with the art deco era designs for the medals.

And your AI half looks good EXCEPT for the IN GODIS UNUM motto that I would hope some human at the mint would catch if they used the same program to design coins but based on all of the fake news articles online including those "used to be recognized as legit" national and local outlets that post "articles" that have no proofreading, spell checking, grammar checking, or even anyone actually looking at it before they hit post.

Anywho, does anyone know if the silver medals will be sold separately or will be only available paired with the gold coins?

AI generated coins could probably be its own thread. Maybe they could give the Mint some design ideas

Here's one (generated by MS Copilot)

That AI half dollar design is dynamite.

Whoever designed that second coin doesn't like hands. Reminds me of that X-men comic book artist in the 1980s who didn't like hands and feet, and drew everybody with about 20 cargo pockets on their pants.

Also, I would just like to say, Liberty should not have a sword, let alone a drawn sword. Liberty is an embodiment of peace and freedom. The Eagle guards Liberty, often clutching arrows in its talons.

Who knows where these AI programs get their data to train from, but the design that MS Copilot came up with for that Half Dollar is pretty similar in concept to the Semiquincentennial Dime (bust of Miss Liberty on the obverse, Flying eagle on the reverse clutching arrows)
