What do you think, AU or MS? I had trouble finding any wear on it, and if it is AU, it is a very narrow slider IMO so I am asking for some help. I had trouble getting good pictures of it on this rainy day, so I used the seller pics. I believe they are fairly accurate as the coin looks original and has subdued luster. So, please give me some opinions.

I would call this AU58. Plenty of luster with just slight friction. Good looking coin.

I just looked and looked and could not see any friction on the knee. Where do you see friction? If it is AU-58, I will return it because though it was a somewhat good price, the other coin I got from this guy was polished.

It's hard to tell from the pictures for me whether it is AU or MS. I think there is some rub so it would technically be au-58. However, if the fields have full luster, a TPG may give it a low MS.

The fields are really clean and lustrous, I think that if this was an MS coin, it'd be an MS-63 minimum. The luster is quite soft and not really radiant, but its all there and not altered or messed with. I usually don't have trouble with these as I collect seated and Barber coinage pretty avidly, but this one has me stumped.

Well, to give you an example of what I'm talking about, the Barber dime in my type set was graded MS-62 by PCGS. The fields are extremely clean with full luster and no bagmarks. The devices are really clean as well, though there is some rub and mild wear on the tops of the devices. It's been my experience that a TPG will sometimes overlook mild rub on the devices and still give it an MS grade if the fields themselves have no luster breaks and are really clean. However, they will mark it down several points. I agree with other that there looks to be slight friction on some of the devices, but it could just be the photos. Since you say the fields are fully lustrous, I'm "guestimating" a TPG would grade it low MS, similar to what they did on my Barber dime. You should submit it and find out. :-) Definitely a keeper.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I don't know if I would submit something comparatively low in value....but what you say is interesting because this might be why some lower MS coins appear 'undergraded'....they're actually AU-59+'s with ultra clean fields.

The highest leaf at 3:00 on the reverse is the only point that might knock this coin down to AU. The knot of the bow on the reverse has a rub I think.
55/58 is the worst you'd do. 63/64 is a possibility. This coin was well struck. LIBERTY looks like it was pounded into the shield and at first glance I thought this might be a proof.
The eye appeal of this coin is very high as well.

I think it's AU based on these photos. I see flat greyish color and some lack of detail on design high points (Liberty's breast, cheek, right knee, and the drapery above the date; the wreath leaf high points and the ribbon bow). Some of this appearance could be attributed to strike weakness but in combination with muted luster I would assume wear. My guess is it would get an AU-55 or AU-58 if you sent it in for grading.

For some reason I am just not seeing this rub on the obverse, but it could be because TPG's slab a lot of 'nice' looking coins with a trace of rub as MS, so I missed it. I am however seeing what bherring pointed out at 3:00 on the reverse a bit. I tried again and failed to take good indoor pics, and am surprised that the seller managed to get such great pictures of the coin. It is nice, but given the other coin and the doubts I have that this is MS, I think I'll send it back. I paid $64 hoping it was MS, which isn't a bad price, so maybe I'll actually put it up here first.

$64 is a good price for that coin. I'd keep it. Even if it graded AU55, lowest I think it would go; Greysheet bid has got to around $64 for it.

yeah, it's just that I blew so much money lately, therefore I am trying to be a bit more conservative unless I got a 'slam dunk'. You get what I mean, right?
