Quote: Any in particular you want to see? Where did you find all the 70-S small dates? I've found a couple at dealers stock, when they're cut from mint sets. Much harder to find in circulation, at least for me here in California! If you show close-ups of these coins, I'll try to confirm the SDs.

Unless you are looking through a dealers stock, these numbers are highly suspect. I am not trying to be a pain in the patoots but most people confuse other forms of doubling with the good stuff. Finding this many of anything like the types of coins you said you found is statistically impossible.
Thanks, Bill
PS: Please post 4 of the 1970 S Small date cents and any four other coins of your choosing.
Keep in mind that there is a worthless doubled die found on many 1972 dated coins that is due to master die doubling and about 50% of all 1972 P D and S coins exhibit that doubling.

They look like this: Not the N on IN and the D in God and The B in LIBERTY. They stand out the most on these master die doubling examples and are as Bill said on all three mints.

with Bill. Those numbers of finds are possible, but not probable. You can always post close up photos for confirmation.

The original image looks like a machine doubled large date to me. The angle of the position and the Machine Doubling makes it appear to be a small date.

Yep, the picture at the top of the thread is a 1970 S Large Date cent. So if that is what the OP thinks is a small date cent, it would explain why he is finding so many:-)
Thanks, Bill

Make new threads. if you keep changing the pictures in the thread above, there is no reference to make the earlier posts and responses valid.
Also, the two that are up there now are both Large Date Cents. The one you had earlier was also a Large Date. So far, no Small Date cents.
Thanks, Bill

Just my 2-cents, by observing the 9 in the picture I see posted, it is my opinion you need to see no more, that is a large date cent. I say this by looking at the ends( or tips ) of the 9, I have not seen a small date Cent that did not have pointed ends on the 9.

"OP" either Ron Howard in the Andy Griffith show or "original Poster". Probably the latter!

I suspect that on LDS lge. dates found in circ. the 9 tails get worn and squared off some. This could lead to some confusion. I think the bar on the 7 is the easiest way to detect. What I mean by that is if you compare the hor. bar of the seven to a mitre cut on wood. the small date is joined like a 45 deg. mitre. lge. date the bar just sits on top. Also Liberty looking more worn to the rest of the devices is a good attribute for the Sm. date.
