I've dubbed this my halo coin. 1968 Lincoln. I am just wondering what in the world happened to this coin. Partial plating? I thought it was just some kind of cleaner or acid that was put on it till I saw all the crinkling that seems to be present. So...what is the deal with this coin. I've only been doing this for two weeks and the two books that I have don't say anything about crinkles.
Thanks. Hopefully the picture shows it well enough. If not I'll post more.

Doing stuff in the garden?, Welcome to the family, I think this coin was dipped in wax or some type of liquid, to cover part of this coin, then dipped in some sort of acid to partially remove some of the copper and wax, just a shot at what I see, I am sure you will get some clearer answers, good luck...

Or glue I think. I have a British ha'penny that was removed from its backing and the glued parts were shiny like that.

Dance in the garden.

Ahhh yes. I pulled out the 30x magnifying glass and I can tell now. Why in the world would someone do that? I thought I found the first odd ball for my collection. Oh well, it'll go in the '82 and older (number 13) jar.

That's all it is. Adhesive that has dried onto the coin.

There was no 'plating' of any kind on cents until 1982 with the exception of the 1943 steel cents which were plated in zinc.

Yeah, I should have thought about that. First time on here and I make my self look ignorant. How nice. That's how you learn I guess.

DITG, I tried, LOL. There is never a question that is considered ignorant, we have ALL started to collect knowledge at some point, I am a beginner, only I have been doing this since 1963, ask away, enjoy, there is a tremendous amount of knowledge here.....

My husband tells me I've joined a coind cult. If we go somewhere I have my Cherrypicker's Guide thumbing through. I'll be glad when I can read through most everything. Especially the other coin questions of DD and such. Color pics may help me learn the difference between DD and DS.

A wise person asks questions and an ignorant pretends by not asking questions.
