hope I din't over pay for this. Can anyone give me an idea on the grade and on the $$ value? The obverse has these black (grease)spots.

Don't give up on your collecting yet, it's a small date.

The spots are either carbon spots or, fingerprint, can't be sure.

Congrats on the great purchase and Cherrypick! Now you can move on to bigger and more valuable varieties! Even with the fingerprint or whatever it is on the Obverse, the coin is worth quite a bit more than what you paid for the whole set!

Did I make a mistake by taking it out of the pouch and putting it in a 2x2?

Hooray for you. After looking at about 1000 70 S cents I still haven't found a small date. Nice find!

Nice find. Can you have finger prints in a mint set?

I really dont think this is a finger print. It looks more like grease/carbon spots. The stain design looks alot like the design on the border of the plastic wrapper that the mint sets come in. I am looking at it with my 10x loop, and it is not a finger print.
Can anyone give me an idea on grade?

I'd say, MS-63, worth about $70.
