I found some old notes on the rev. of 64 and 65 jeffersons.
Where the B in pluribus looks like a D
Was this just die wear or debris or an actual variety ?
I forgot :)

Despite the good intentions of removing the clash marks, mint workers polished the reverse die field to the extent that the center of the B in PLURIBUS was polished off. Thus, it appears as PLURIDUS instead of PLURIBUS.
I believe these are scarce.

Oh, so there would also be signs of a clash then ?
What would the obv. look like ?
Also I wrote back then it was on only the 64 and 65 P's
Is that also correct ?
And for the record, just an over polished die then ?
Odd, if true it also exists on the 1965 to have that die/dies
overpolished also as well as the 64
Thanks for the info.

Without an image it is hard to tell what happened to your coin. Sometimes a post can break off the die leaving a filled device that was not formed because of the break. It would be harder to polish away the device itself as the devices are deep into the die. So an image would help.

I know there is a 1964D variety of the E Pluridus Unum.

It couldn't be a variety. It would have to be Die Deterioration. The letters are not punched into the hub, they all come from a master die that creates the master hubs and on down. If it were a variety it would have to have the miss spelling from the first coin and I don't think that would be possible. Some call certain popular die cracks/chips/breaks/clashed/over polishing coins as varieties, but the die wasn't like that when it started out.

A picture would say ten thousand words, if possible.

Thanks,
Bill
