Check this out, "Dear United States Mint Customer,

Production of the United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and
Uncirculated Coins was suspended this year because of unprecedented
demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. All available silver
bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion
Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61
to produce these coins "in quantities sufficient to meet public demand
..."

The United States Mint will resume the American Eagle Silver Proof and
Uncirculated Coin Programs once sufficient inventories of silver
bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three
American Eagle Silver Coin products. However, due to the continued,
sustained demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins, 2009-dated
American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins will not be
produced.

You do not need to re-subscribe to the 2010 American Eagle Silver Proof
and Uncirculated Coin Programs. Prices may change during the course of
your subscription. Should the price change for the 2010 coins, the new
prices will be listed on your 30-day pre-fulfillment notification.
Please review your notification carefully."

I am totally disgusted, what ever happened to meeting the public's demand for such coinage!

I would tend to think that public demand is meant for US demand and not world demand, which I think is the one the mint is considering here. If they want to play that way then all my subscriptions will be cancelled and I collect for my grandchildren(3). Director Moy needs to be fired and real fast. The mint is telling us that they don't need the collector!

Well.......I'm very disappointed to hear this ! ....

At least I have my 2008 Proofs (2) & Uncirculated (1)......and if it's the end of the program (which I doubt) then I'd have the last ones covered.

So....I suppose we can expect HSN to be offering all the 2009 Bullion ASE's for an outrageous price now !
"If you want an '09 Silver Eagle, this is the only one you can have !"...."Buy em' now while they're still available at this low price of $199.95 !"

I just got off the mint site where I cancelled subscriptions and closed my account. The only way the mint will listen to us is by closing accounts. If it makes them change their mind, you can always open a new one. Buy what you want to buy, not what they want us to buy.

A "mass revolt" is the only way anything would "change" I'm afraid.

A few hundred people "closing down their accounts" would have the same affect as throwing a single grain of sand into the Sahara Desert ! ....

Until there are more "coin collectors" who also happen to be "Congressmen & women"......nothing will change.......in fact.....it will only continue to evolve the way it's been going. They'll do what they will to make the most money......simple as that.

So.......everybody enjoy their Presidential dollars, newly designed Native Dollars, and the new 10 year program of the State Park "America the Beautiful" Quarters ! ..... ...

.... .....

..... ......

.... ...... .....

The story seems to be to me that the West Point Mint cannot handle this years volume efficently enough to produce the proofs along with the huge numbers of coins made this year. I would hope that a fourth branch mint be opened to alleviate the problem, or some of the bullion eagles be made at philidelphia or denver as those mints have been relatively inactive in comparison to previous years.

THEY SHOULD BUILD A NEW CARSON CITY MINT ! ..... ...

Just for a "short time" like in history.......then close her back down ! .....

Shouldn't cost more than a Billion or so to build a brand new facility there in Nevada !!

Maybe some Nevada politicians could throw this into the next "Bailout Bill" or "Stimulous Plan" ......

I don't understand...how 2009 ASE's are not available... I bought them this past April dated 2009...I am sure there is a way outside the mint (their stuff is over priced anyways) to get the coins you want...I did not buy a proof so they may be affected differently.

We would not have this problem if the ASE program was not just a subsidy for domestic silver producers. The legislation that created the ASE prevents the mint from sourcing foreign silver to meet demand.

You can't buy the "Bullion" ASE's from the Mint.......only in the secondary market.
The Proofs and Uncirculated ASE's are the only ones you can buy directly.

And actually, for those interested......I believe you can still buy the "2008 Uncircluated Dollar Set" on the Mints website.

It's the circular Set containing an ASE in the middle, surrounded by a Native Dollar and each Presidential dollar for that year.

Personally I think the uncirculated silver eagles look better than the proofs. I just can't see paying extra for a bullion coin just for the fact its a proof when I can get the uncirculated version for much less.

Or Littleton will make some proofs.

Yep, it's the proof that's not available.
