Hi this thread is to see what people would like to see on a coin it can be anything but you have to say the what coin it is to ok. My wish design coin is a quarter with plains indian on the obverse riding a horse with a hunting spear in his hand. And on the reverse will be two American Buffalos a calf and its mother grazing in the grass. Your coin can have any design any I swear even you on it or a car or whatever so have fun and post anything Edited by Buffaloboy5 05/24/2006 9:31 pm

This is something I used to to think (dream:) when I started coin collecting. I've seen many coins commemorating some "important" people, and back then I dreamed that some day I could be smiling on a coin. Now I think every coin I don't have is a dream coin. once (and if) I get it, I have new dreams then.

Actually...I always loved this design: http://home.earthlink.net/~smalldol.../2000ml.htmlI am a HUGE fan of liberty or some depiction of her. Some have commented their her eyes are bulged out, her lips "too hot" and her hair looks like she got caught in a wind tunnel, but it has been almost 60 years since Liberty has been used on a circulated coin (Merc Dime). What a shame...it sure beats the Presidential dollar coin designs and most importantly, it takes REAL people and politics OUT of our coins!

. . . . <---------- For US, get rid of the presidents. Bring back Liberty, maybe something with the flag. Or other important people, kind of like what Renal said. Who? I don't know for sure, but Any coin with Liberty is better than any presidential coin, IMO.

Using Presidents on the U.S. Coins does seem to be "dictatorial" or "monarchish" doesn't it? It's the history behind those Presidents that is being honored, however, the American Silver Eagles are so popular that perhaps that is the way to go. I agree that bringing back Lady Liberty is a great idea! The ASE's are a beautiful example of that. I am curious who will be honored on the new Cent in 2009. Has anyone heard what is being considered and what the original production expectations might be?

Well, with the current metal prices, the are going to axe the cent, or have to use a different metal. I thought it was supposed to be different stages of Lincoln's life.

I've heard different stories..ax, not ax. They are just copper coated since 1982, but yes an alternative...clad? Oh dear! Not Lincoln again! Can't they let that man R.I.P. He's been dug up 17 times and he's still around.
If the cent were axed then the "Jewish Pricing" - no offense, the $9.99 and so forth would be obsolete and sales tax would have to become an even amount. hmmmmmmmm Thought to ponder!
I've also heard that folks are starting to "hoard" the wheaties and the Lincolns due to the upcoming change. I'm not parting with mine except to other collectors.
Anyone else heard anything? Thanks jdheyne!

What I honestly miss are the traditional designs of the European coinage. Don't forget, the early designs of US coins are often of European desendents! If cost and time wasn't a factor in producing coins, most mintmasters would have worked on something splendid. Taking the example of the past of the Imperial Russian commemorative designs, http://park3.wakwak.com/~sim1351/Co...orative.html most designs easily exceed the commemorative these days the mint produces. Of course, we must not forget that the forefathers of the impressive high relief commemorative coins were actually the Germans, and that even the early Russian commemorative rubles were actually designed by a German mintmaster!!!

I think a circulating silver dollar (real, full sized silver dollar, I want a return to silver and gold as circulating money...) with the "Don't Tread on Me"/snake flag on the reverse, some depiction of Liberty on the front...

Gold and silver will never come back into circulation thanks to the insane metal prices. Maybe the exception is in Europe, but you don't really see them for circulation. You should be back in the days when Russia, the only country that managed to have circulated platinum coins!!! In fact, the largest platinum denomination 12 rubles that did circulate is some insane 1.3oz of raw Ural platinum!!!

It's not exactly a matter of the metal prices being high but the dollar losing its value. It's lost roughly 95 or 96 percent of its purchasing power since the Federal Reserve (which is in fact owned by its privately owned member banks, so it's not even "federal" owned) was made in 1913, and around 88% of its purchasing power since 1950 (which tells a lot). Because it's fiat currency now. It's worthless, backed by nothing. The only way the dollar can become as valuable as it once was (and thereby enable gold and silver to circulate again) is to eliminate the Federal Reserve and stop the printing of worthless, paper fiat. Which would be a very good thing to have done soon, before we eventually have hyperinflation (they're definately hiding facts too since the M3 isn't being published anymore and it was obvious that the printing presses have been running around the clock in recent years). But, the very rich and powerful people who support the Federal Reserve system will not let this happen. People in the past have died under very suspicious circumstances when they posed a threat to the Federal Reserve. Now that's interesting that there were circulating platinum coins in Russia. Hadn't heard that before.

I also really like that design. Much rather would have that than the presidents. Not from a collector standpoint, just as a citizen standpoint. I am not a fan of any of the new stuff for collecting purposes. But I would much rather have Liberty in my pocket than the presidents.
