OK I think this has been brought up before but couldn't find it. So what is the coin you would love to add to your collection if you could afford it someday. It doesn't have to have a very expence price but just the coin you would really like to get. Mine is a 1916-D Mercury dime in G-VG condition. I hope that someday within the next 5 year be able to buy one of these. That would complete my first set other them modern coins-(ASE, State Quarter sets.) It is hard to buy it now since I have three kids and a wife and they take most of my extra money. Plus there are so main coins that I feel I need to get that I am alway buying something new that is not very expensive and it take the money that I could save for this coin. Alright enought of me whining about my money. So what is tha one coin you would love to buy.

What would be nice is if I can get a nice set of the Imperial Russian commemorative coins. A 1834 12 ruble platinum coin in proof would be nice too if I can earn that much!!!

Without thinking of the Aussie "super coins" the one that is within my financial means to hanker after is the UK Gothic Crown...

Hi djluster:
Great question.
I have a great fascination with owning a 1796 quarter. I like this coin so much that I've got it pictured at the top of my website home page. Alas, at $10,000 in Good condition, it will be a while before I can be the proud owner an example of the first United States quarter. When that day comes, though, I won't feel like I'm throwing my money away (as compared to, say, buying a brand new car -- it loses value when you drive it off the car lot). The 1796 quarter has shown a remarkable consistency to appreciate in value over time.
When you reach your goal of landing a 1916-D Mercury, you'll most likely someday realize impressive value gains. Like the 1796 quarter, the 1916-D Mercury has a legacy of high demand from the collecting community, and will do nothing except climb in value over time.
If I was a betting man, I would put my money on you, djluster, that someday a 1916-D Mercury will call your collection HOME!

At this time in my collecting phase I want a 1893S Morgan dollar in MS state. Then again, maybe we shouldn't have our holy grail of coins as there the one that keeps our coin obsession (sorry,I mean hobby ) going. Once we obtain our desire, would our collecting wane? Or would we move on to a different type of coin. I don't know.

That's a difficult one. Hmmmmmmmm
I suppose at this point I would like to complete my type set of cents. So the 1877 and 1909S would be very nice. That goal is reachable if/when I can find the two of them reasonably priced for a EF or AU. Reasonable is all in ones perspective I know, so a VG would probably have to suffice.
Other than those, I'm continuing with my World Coins and am anxious to add Ireland to my collection!
Good idea for a thread...it got my mind thinking!
Long term? I would like to continue adding Gold coins to my collection - any Country, any denomination.

I also would like to have a 1916D Mercury or a high grade 1933D Oregan Trail Memorial half.

1. 1857-S Double Eagle in MS65 or higher. I could go on, but this is my current window-shopping favorite. The finest known 1924-S, 1928-S, or 1934-S Peace dollar(s) would be okay too.
