Hello everyone I went to the mint on Tuesday on a class trip to Philly. But when we went to the mint we only had 15minutes to see everything since everyone in class just took there time in a museum shop where all they did was fool around. Anyhow at the mint I purcashed 2 sets of coins. The first was a 2006 State Quarter set. The other was a 1943 steel cent set in ms-63 or higher condition. When my classmates questioned why I bought the sets and why were they so expensive I gladly explained why and how coins become expensive. After listening and asking questions for 10min. we had to leave and I ddint get to see the mint long enough like I wanted too. But my Father said he'll take me just to the mint on the weekend for a whole day and I am so happy. The sets were this much State Quarter set-15.00$ 1943 Steel cent set-10.00 which came with 5 steel cents(three P marked 1 D marked and one S marked

Very nice ... I've never been to a mint before, but keep meaning to get over to the one in San Francisco... Has anyone else been to a mint before? Any impressions?

The Denver Mint is nice. I especially enjoy the history of the Mints themselves as well as the obvious. Anyone planning on attending the ANA in Denver in August? We're thinking about flying "home" for it. It would be wonderful to meet some of you at the Convention Center. buffaloboy - did you see any War Nickels while you were there?

I live in western Colorado, and will probably attend. In addition, I plan on making the 600 mile round trip drive when the Colorado Statehood Quarter is launched.

Glad you enjoyed it Buffaloboy...I visited the mint in Phila last December. Next time you go, make sure that you go upstairs..they have windows that overlook all the machines that make the coins. Its pretty interesting. Congratulations on your steel cents too

I've never been to a mint but would love to visit one someday. I saw the program on Discovery about the mint and it was very interesting. I had no idea that it was so involved and complicated to make coins.

I'm glad that you had a nice time buffaloboy and thanks for the offer...but, I have them circulated and Mint. Gary; I lived in Evergreen about 10 years, Bailey about 10 years and the Front Range, Lakewood, for 5. I lived on the Western Slope (Montrose) for about 8 months though and drove to Telluride every day. I know you know the route. I dearly miss the San Juans and taking our boat out on "The Blue". Hopefully, we'll be getting out of this Desert heat within the next few months as my Father wants to move to CO with us. In any case, we are looking at taking a trip "home" in August and would love to meet up with you at the ANA. I'll keep watching the forum and let you know. I made that round trip more times than I can remember. Mostly, I took the Gunnison Route and over Monarch! Oh how I am sooooooo homesick. I'm way off of the topic of this thread...just wanted to say "hello" to a fellow Coloradan. Oh, the CO Quarter is pretty. I voted for that one. I have the Proof Set and look at it every day!

BuffaloBoy, you will always remember your trip to the Mint. Too bad you didn't have more time.
When I think of the Philly Mint, I'm reminded of the first two Philly Mint buildings that no longer exist. The First Philly Mint, where it all started, was called "Ye Olde Mint", built starting in 1792. The 2nd Philly Mint began operations in 1833. Ye Olde Mint survived until about 1911. The 2nd Philly Mint was razed in 1903. At the time of their destruction, removal of both these historic buildings was called "progress".
Today, people like me express remorse over the loss.
I visited the Denver Mint in the summer of 2001, and enjoyed the experience greatly.
