I've been a member of PC GS for some time now and I compared this coin very closely with their 10 and their 12. By comparing them and photos I thought the coin fell somewhere right in between 10 and 12, hopefully my assessment would hold up. Here are the G-10's  |

I'll go VG-10 because of higher than average detail remaining on the eagle and in the drapery. I wouldn't say that liberty is the only consideration here.
Nice rare coin by the way, I have one of this date/mm too.

one of my quarters, the pic looks like  e ! the coin is not porous, just spotty tarnish. by the way shadow, did you ever sell your 1865 dime ? Edited by seateddime48174

Hmm... I'm pretty sure it isn't, I examined the mintmark area pretty thoroughly under a glass and there is no trace of a mintmark.

i'll bet you one of my 1866-s quarters it is an S mint... and I can prove it without even looking at the back of the coin.

the most common die pair for the 1865-s dime has a date that slopes down left to right, and has a very weak (sometimes non-existant) mintmark, the date on an 1865P is much closer to the base below ms liberty, and is much more level.
that same reverse die was re-used for some of the 1866-s dimes, thus creating even more P mint "imposters"
