Here's another of my prized Seated dimes. This is an 1878-CC coin graded MS-63 by PCGS. It has weakness on the lower left of the reverse which I understand was caused by a lapped or overpolished die. Other examples were struck before the reverse die was lapped and those have strong detail in this area.

Based on information provided by SeatedDime this would be a Type 1 reverse if the left-side ribbon had a forked end. However, the die lapping pretty much obliterated this part of the design. So, is it a Type 1 or a Type 2? As is the case for the 1877-CC dime I previously posted the price guides show a higher value for Type 1 examples.

I think I'll retrieve this coin from the safe deposit box and try for some sharper pictures; these old images are kinda blurry. It might take awhile but I'll update this thread once I have better shots.

that is an over polished die, but if you look closely, you will see that it is also badly shattered, roughly the middle of the wreath from approx 4:00 counterclockwise all the way to at least 12:00 that die started to come apart as it was minting dimes in 1877. it was polished to the point of obliterating the details you mentioned, then used again to strike a good number of the 78cc dimes
