I am looking at this dime for a possible purchase. It is raw. Judging from the pics what would you grade it and what price do you think is fair?

Caveat: The photos aren't quite up to forming definitive opinions.

That said, I could see this coin in an XF slab. I like the obverse details better than the reverse. I worry about the color; although I've seen this "ring around the rim" toning on supposedly-original Seated coins, the untoned areas towards the center of the faces seem a bit bright by comparison.

Therefore, I leave it to you to evaluate the seller and decide originality. If original and uncleaned (the photos do not adequately address cleaning), you're looking at a $150+ coin.

If it were me? Assuming I decided the seller was righteous and unlikely to pawn a cleaned coin off on me, I still wouldn't exceed $75 for the coin. They're not scarce, and this one looks like a chance rather than a sure thing.

I agree with everything Superdave said. You may be taking a chance so play it conservatively.

well...the seller is advertising it as an AU+. But due to the detail quality of the pic I cannot draw a strong conclusion. Even though I have delt with the selling in the past with no problems it is too big of a risk for me. I would send the coin in for grading since I wanted it for my certified type set, but he is asking $300+ the grading would be $35 so it would be a $335 gamble.

I think I will just hold out for a certified one.

Poker is better for gambling. Don't believe the pics allow a good shot to grade.

Looks like solid EF details but the coloring suggests it has been dipped white at one time and is retoning. I can't see any hairlines or damage but the images aren't clear enough to be confident.

Pricewise I think it would be a very good deal at around $150 and still a good deal at maybe $200 if it is problem-free. The $300 asking price is full retail for a PCGS EF-40 coin and there is no certainty this one will slab with any no-problem grade. If it were in a PCGS AU-50 slab $300 would be an excellent score.

I've been looking for a bust dime for my type set and problem-free specimens are hard to find. When you do find slabbed examples they seem to be priced very high. So, I'm still looking!
