Are the 2005 though 2008 satins? They look a little different then the pre 2005.

Once I finish my 32-98 Washington set I'll start working on my State Quarter set. My dad finished his set by buying mint sets straight from the mint every year and it looks amazing. What's the value of a set like that, anyway?

Thanks all for the nice comments. State Quarters really got me back into collecting at a higher level. Now quarters have become a favorite part of my collection. Well .. I do like all my coins, but to me, seeing all the new designs each year is exciting. I know not everyone feels that way ... I had to look, I think most or all of the 2005, 2006 and 2007 are satin P and D's. I have broke open a lot of mint and proof sets this past year. I also have a Dansco State Quarter P and D only album, that may have some of the satin's like the 2008's. Someday I might put all the satins in one album and the business strikes in the other.

That's awesome! It's amazing how much different the silver proofs look from the clads.

KenKat The silver proofs really are different. When I break them out of the plastic mint holder, white gloves on, it is like holding something magical .. to me the silver proof are very special.

Buying a complete set in the $500 to $600 range can be different than putting your own together. I am not sure how much I have into this, I would have to check through my records. I know I paid $150 for the books (that were half filled) and today I got the 2002 silver set for $55. The 1999 proof silvers I found for $10.00 each, which a really good deal. If you had to buy the 1999 silver proof set, it alone could easily be high $200 to low $300's. I had some duplicate clad and silver proof sets so that helped me there.
The thing is you don't have to do a set all at once, you can take your time and try to find the best coins at a good price... even if it takes years. Most people think the silver proof quarters are very under priced .. so I don't think sets like these are going to get any cheaper to put together.
And it never ends ... once you get it done you can always be on the look out for better coins to upgrade.
