I recently purchased this on ebay...acted fast on it and didn't have a chance to research if it was genuine. Sorry I do not have better photos. What makes me suspect is the date. It looks a little off from other photos I've seen, but I am not aware of any varities of this coin. Are there any Barber experts out there that could chime in. Reverse to follow. Thanks. ***Edited by Staff to add image ***

The 4 looks very suspect. The horizontal bar of the 4 should extend past the vertical bar more than yours does. I cant tell if its been blundered or not. A closeup of the date would be helpful.

I was able to zoom in slightly without affecting the clarity. There could have been an impact there. It will be interesting to see when I have it in hand.

I doubt it's an altered date, not much to be gained by making a different barber half into a 14-s. It sure doesn't look right to me though. None of the numerals look correct to me and the surface appears to be quite grainy. The overall color is suspect as well. I think it may be a caste counterfeit.

Looks extremely suspicious; probably cast.

The "9" is wrong...its lower leg way too thin The "4" has no foot (as stated before) the date, overall, is too thin
cant say if it's cast or altered...it's something that isn't authentic
the reverse definitely looks cast. They may as well have put the SW/S/SE denticles on with an eye dropper.

I don't think it's cast.The scan doesn't do justice.You got a F-VF coin and hope you didn't pay EF money.

I thought it was dipped into acid and left it in there to long, and or didn't rinse it off properly.

The 1914-S Barber quarter is a semi-key date retailing for maybe $300 in VF and over $500 in EF, making it a profitable choice for a counterfeiter. The date, reverse denticles, color, and surfaces all look off and details don't look sharp enough. Hopefully the seller offers a refund 'cause I don't think this is the real deal. Here are Heritage photos of a PCGS AU-53 coin that sold recently for $1150. When you look closely the OP's coin doesn't look much like the PCGS example.
