Just received this 1886O from a seller who has, in the past, provided great opportunities to purchase quality coins. I'm hoping for any MS grade (the higher the better obviously). It's a Nawlins strike so I expected some weaknesses. Please give me your opinion. I almost think I see a 62 in this coin (hoping anyway)...

Not the expert, but I think the coin was around the block maybe halfway.

I would have to say that there is no way this would come back UNC. There appears to be hairlines on this coin, either from a brief period of circulation or it was once wiped.
There are also what appears to be contact marks (more than bag marks) on the flat spot above the ear. There is that horizontal mark that is not a line of the hair, and another longer, but not a deep mark coming in at about 15 degrees to that line.

There is much chatter in the fields... I hesitate to say possibly cleaned as a coin in pictures is not like having a coin in hand. It's all the little horizontal hairlines (on the first picture) in the fields, and on the face that gives me that worry.

It is still a very nice coin and I would have no problem buying it at AU money, but no more.

The coin does appear to have been cleaned (hairlines), I would also say MS-62.

Looks like a "slider" to me, that is, an AU coin that has been wiped or lightly shined up to simulate BU luster. I'd bet 10 to 1 that it would fail to grade at PCGS and would come back in a Genuine holder with an "altered surface" judgment.

The 1886-O is of course an expensive coin in Unc so there's a financial incentive to try to pass an AU off as BU.

As Jaobler mentioned, the 1886-O is a true Condition Rarity in Mint State. A genuine MS62 example is a $2000 coin.

The way the light shines on the face (especially the neck) makes me tend to agree with Jaobler's opinion - it's what one might politely call an "enhanced" slider.
