So it's no longer a body bag, it's a body slab. Sort of a coffin. More respectful, I guess, LOL

That is so odd. Why would they grade an altered coin at all? Does this make any sense to anybody?

It's in pretty nice shape. My theory is as follows: Submitter thought he had an incredibly high grade 1916-D and could not wait to get it back. Well, NGC made sure to get it to him on April 1st(April fools day), and NGC said, "what the heck", lets surprise him with an obvious slabbed coin once he opens. Then he'll turn it over and see what we put! Ha ha ha!
Just my theory :-)

I'm surprised no one bid on it. certainly worth $4 as a conversation piece.

Do they actually assign body bags a certification number? I didn't realize that.

Every coin is assigned a certification number when it arrives, that way they can track it. The number is assigned by the person who unpacks the shipment and enters the coins into the computer long before the graders ever see the coin.

Look at the label again, they DIDN'T grade it. They just noted that it had an added mintmark and sent it off to bodybag land.

Frankly the person who sent it in wasted his money because this was an obvious fake. Mintmark is the wrong style and much too large to be a 16-D. Still though I wish I had known about it before it closed. I would have bid on it just as a teaching tool.

The seller canceled all the bids to relist it as a Mercury dime instead of a Barber

Yep. Quite deceptive for the seller to claim it has been certified by NGC.
