Very cool. Strong 63, probably 64. I'm guessing the dark stuff on the cheek is less prominent in-hand than it is in photographs.

Now for the fun part. You've noticed it's an 8TF, right? Looks like what they've designated as an A1c reverse, shared by some of the most common, and the very rarest, 8TF varieties. The characteristic "lump" on the F in OF seems very strong with this coin; can you confirm that what I'm seeing is a lump? If this is an A1c reverse, it could be worth anything from $140 to $50,000 or more depending on variety. There are people out there with checkbooks open, waiting to pay cash for the rarer ones.

Do you have the ability to do closeup shots of certain features?

I would grade it at MS-63, I think the marks on the obverse might keep it from making MS-64. That sure does look like a lump on the F.

the lump on the F is the trademark A1c reverse, classification of 1878P have a lot of different OBV and REV due to the fact the first year of minting had many many design and manufacturing flaws .
The above coin is one of the common VAM 4, but loaded with doubling,

I would say MS64 as this looks better than most of the TPG MS63 Morgans I have.
