It really seems everyone is going crazy over these Extra Tree Quarters, the two that the guy has on ebay (the guy I bought mine from for 20.00 a peice) has already hit over the 200.00 mark. Wonder if this will die down or keep selling strong like the Wisconsin Quarter. Here is the links to the two I was refering to http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...WA:IT&ih=016

Yea...these things are getting a little pricey for me. I will just have to start checking every quarter I get to see if it is one. I know if I dont get one soon, I will wish I did when they are selling for 2000 bucks...lol

These will catch on and be popular but the odds are there will be a lot of them. They won't be quite as popular as the WI varieties. This one you may want to wait for. $200 isn't a terrible price if you must have it now but at some point the price of these will probably drop to around this level.

I'd feel like a thief, turning one of those over on ebay. It's like a current-year MS-70.

All these peeps who are paying these uncalled for prices for this "fad" will be extremely disappointed when they try and sell these puppies when the public finds out that there are a couple of millions of these guys created--

There will not be this kind of numbers extant. DDO's are by definition unique (except for hub doubled DDO's) and these dies rarely strike more than 400,000 coins. The best bet is that there are about 250,000 and a large percentage of these actually made it into circulation. This means they'll be all over the country getting worn down and otherwise degraded. It will take years for collectors to find them all.

I'd guess the price will likely settle in the $200 range eventually for a decent (MS-63) unc. Fines will bring in the $100 range. It's impossible to predict the price for the high grade coins without having a good sample of them, but it might be safe to figure $500 for a gem.

There are lots of assumptions here and one is that people like to collect coins even of recent manufacture and that this wll continue for some time.

Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

well from his auction it says that the grading companies will recognize it and attribute it as a "Extra Tree" variety. here is what he says in his auction
"I GOT THE OK ON THESE COINS TODAY TO SEND THEM IN TO BE GRADED AND AUTHENTICATED. THEY WILL BE LABELED AS ( MINNESOTA EXTRA TREE ) THE COIN IN THIS AUCTION IS A UNGRADED COIN BUT THE WINNING BIDDER CAN SEND IT IN IF THEY WANT TO AFTER THEY RECEIVE IT WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS ."

I see a bunch on ebay right now for Buy it now at $149.00. Do you think these will be like the Low leaf and High Leaf Quarters and be worth a lot in the future ? I am thinking of buying one but I'm not sure....

Any opinions?

Thanks for the link Tim,
Well obviously they have gone down in price as you can see from the links in the first post and the links above. I don't think the magnitude of the extra tree will be as big as the Wisconsin error.
